Workplace Eye Safety

Thousands of workers injure their eyes or lose their eye sight because they chose not to wear proper eye protection, not because they didn’t have it.

I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW… if something happens to your eyes there is no quick fix!

Your eyes are extremely delicate and are very easy to damage. It does not take a hard blow to cause injury. All it takes is a tiny sliver or speck of metal, a particle of dust, or a trace amount of chemical to do a great deal of damage to your eyes. Possibly causing permanent damage and long term pain and suffering in some cases.

You must always wear eye protection when:

  • Working with or around metal shavings, grinding wheels, flying debris or dust
  • When working with any type of liquids, chemicals, or acids for any amount of time
  • While working with chemical gasses or vapors
  • Or any other time you are working with any type of workplace hazard.

Here are a few safety tips about eye protection:

  • Contact lenses are not designed as eye protraction, so don’t use them as such.
  • Make sure your eye protection fits properly, also ensure it is kept clean and stored in a safe location
  • Never try to remove foreign matter from yours or another employee’s eyes. Playing doctor will probably make the condition worse

If there is ever any doubt in your mind about determining if eye protection is needed, consult your supervisor before performing any work. Don’t guess and spend the rest of your life with the ultimate consequence of blindness.
